Starting November 1st, we are undertaking a green renovation of our store, Muskoka Outfitters to expand our store space, and set an example for green awareness in the Muskoka area. Our final goal is to achieve a LEED certification for commercial interiors. Our mission is to show how businesses can improve thier surroundings while minimizing impact on the environment and at the same time reduce their energy costs. In our case, we have located our business in a older building previously occupied by a car dealership but located on a beautiful stretch of the Muskoka River. What is best for one business is not necessarily best for the environment and most buildings, even those being constructed today typically look to save money for the short term instead of long term energy savings and without thought of environmental impact. Our Green Reno will first see us using low impact interior coatings, sustainable building materials and the latest offerings in lighting fixtures to improve our surroudings while lowering energy costs. Our future developments include solar energy production, increased building insulation, rain capture and reclaiming asphalt parking to increased green space.
